“Participating in the second edition of this Winter School was like opening a window and letting in a breath of fresh air: thanks to the diversity and professionalism of the speakers present, I had the chance to explore familiar themes, but above all to discover new approaches and perspectives that I had never considered. Indeed, one of the most striking aspects for me was to see how the principles of restorative justice can be found and communicated through the most disparate channels: through theatrical reinterpretations of ancient Greek myths, traditional shepherding practices, photographic portraits, or even through online platforms and the metaverse. Another small takeaway that I’d like to share is the simple but powerful idea that conflicts should not only be resolved, but rather transformed, as conflict can also represent an opportunity for growth. In short, this mix of topics and insights, combined with a fantastic group of international students, made this Winter School an enriching experience on all fronts. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of it!”

“The experience of this Winter School, entitled “Trasforming 21st Century Conflicts”, has been enriching from both a human and a professional and academic point of view. It has allowed me to deepen, with an interdisciplinary approach, the reasons connected to the emergence of conflicts, which affect every area of society and law, as well as to understand the modern theories and methods of resolving them, which also take into account the problems connected the advent of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
In particular, in the field of criminal law, which I deal with, I had the opportunity to verify the theoretical limits deriving from the currently existing legislation on restorative justice, being able to reflect, from a de iure condendo perspective, on the relations of integration and compatibility between trial and criminal assessment and alternative dispute resolution systems, which implement a full social reintegration of the offender and ensure the re-educational function of the punishment.”

“I applied for this Winter School because the theme interested me. It was a great surprise to have the possibility not only to learn something new, but also to discover a completely new way of teaching and learning. Getting interested in decolonial approach, it’s quite common to read about methods of teaching different from the frontal and hierarchical one. But seeing all of these in practice was incredible. It was enriching, especially because in this way the professors transmitted much more than mere notions. In fact, as a trainee lawyer, I know how the administration of justice works in the courts, and I had difficulty imagining paths other than this.
